The wait is sexy | Yvonne Orji | TEDxWilmingtonSalon

“You cannot date until you get married.”

Born to strict Nigerian parents, Yvonne determined to get married and intimate at 18.

But her enthusiasm was diminished by her friends’ low expectations of sex.

After getting “bamboozled by Jesus” in college, today Yvonne is a 33 year old virgin. Suddenly her parents want her to meet someone.

Yvonne gives 5 suggestions for finding love – regardless of your beliefs, values and choices. Because when you find the right person, the wait is worth it.

Yvonne Orji is a Nigerian-American actress, comedienne and writer who continues to display her versatility and passion with each project she takes on. On television, she stars in HBO’s new comedy series “Insecure”. The show follows the friendship of two modern-day black women and all of their uncomfortable experiences and racy tribulations. Orji stars as one of these women opposite Issa Rae, who is executive producing the show along with Prentice Penny and Melina Matsoukas. She is also currently developing a half-hour sitcom, based on her life entitled “First Gen”, that Oprah and David Oyelowo are executive producing. The show is a comedy about a Nigerian girl who trades medical school for a career in stand-up comedy and the adventures that ensue after her strict African mother discovers her plans.

  1. Way to go, I wish more would value themselves as much as she does, she is a beautiful woman inside out and I can only wish her the best for the unexpected to show up !
I also love when she goes for “pidgin” she is a whole to love that’s for sure !

  2. John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Here’s a reminder of how much God loves you. God bless you🤍

  3. Im SINGLE BROWN turning 27 and waiting till marriage for alllll mon religious reasons..will be coming down to the states for my PhD and this worries me a bit, whether I am doing the right thing in today's time, will I make friends, will I be accepted ? But this TED is a reminder to not LET YOUR STANDARDS DOWN! YOUR VALUES MATTER….. and there is somone out there who will wait and value you for who you are ! God bless everyone

  4. For those still waiting, stop waiting. Dive in and if at 1st you don't succeed, try and try again. Don't wait for perfection because you'll only find procrastination ✨️

  5. This was great. I wish so badly that I saw more people willing to talk about it outside of church. In church you just get a lot of guilt, feeling like a huge sinner for having thoughts and questions on it. People said "wait" and after a failed first marriage, I was like that didn't work! Hopefully, someone is watching this in 2022 and it will help them!

  6. Well, I know a dude whose 34 nice dude, but he’s not a millionaire so I don’t think girl here would ever give that dude a chance ,so her and 100 other women are fighting for that same millionaire!!is cool that she waiting nothing against that !

  7. The wait was so worth it. Because my first time was with my lifelong best friend, literally since we were toddlers. I've been head over heels in love with him for years, and I'm lucky he feels the same. So our first time was perfectly worth the wait, because we got to make it special, safe, personal; loving.

Don't jump into bed, give your virginity to someone you trust, and take your time. Whenever you are ready, you're ready.

  8. This was posted in 2017 – So…5+ years later, at 38 years of age, she is STILL waiting for that 1 guy to 'find' her. If she wants to be married (and have children) she has to face some realities and remove herself from the delusion of thinking the man of her dreams is out there and will be delivered to her. That wall is real.
