Most Scenic Train Ride in India | Toy Train from Kalka to Shimla

I think we just went on the most scenic train ride here in India from the city of Kalka right up to Shimla in the snow capped Himalaya’s.

The Kalka to Shimla railway was built in 1903 of a way to get the Brittish up to their summer capital. This 96km ride on the Himalayan Queen toy train takes just over 6 hours across a narrow gauge railway.

Quick facts – we went through 20 picturesque stations, 103 tunnels, 912 curves and 969 bridges :O

In Shimla there are plenty of things to do to keep you busy – the Jakhoo monkey Temple is an ancient temple overlooking the Himalaya’s and the town below.

We also went to Rashtrapati Niwas, the school for advanced studies and ended our time at Mall Road before making our way to Delhi.
